Albanians "hand over" old cars! - Many vehicles imported from South Korea were affected
Albanians are increasingly getting rid of old cars. According to data from DPSHTRR, during 2024, about 8,000 vehicles were deregistered, which have an average age of 22 years, marking a significant increase of 38% compared to 2023.
The key factor that has influenced this growth is the import of vehicles from South Korea, which are offered at low prices.
During the January-November period of 2024, imports from South Korea have surpassed other traditional markets from which Albanians used to buy vehicles.
Accordingly, 17,400 vehicles imported from this country were registered in Albania during the first 11 months of last year, contributing to the increase in the number of used units, but also to the improvement of the fleet in circulation.
On the other hand, the Technical Control service has registered an increase of 8.2% of vehicles that underwent testing for 2024.
Of the 428,000 vehicles tested, only 69% passed and got the green light to resume normal traffic. The rest, which did not pass the test, remained due to technical deficiencies identified during the inspection.
The most common reasons were problems with the exhaust, steering and braking systems. This indicates a constant need to improve the quality of vehicles in circulation, contributing to increased safety and a clean environment.
