Albania, center of the military industry in the region/ What will be the investments in defense over the next 4 years?
Within the next 4 years, Albania is expected to become a regional center of the defense industry. This is the objective of the new government, for the realization of which the defense budget will first be increased by no less than 0.15 points above the current rate of 2.01% of Gross Domestic Product.
The "Made in Albania" military industry, where ammunition, light weapons, armored vehicles, civil emergency vehicles and unmanned systems are all produced in Albania, will soon be a reality.
Also, Albania's naval capacities will be expanded with 3 new ships and the existing fleet will be modernized.
On the other hand, the worrying situation with the fires brought to attention once again the need to increase civil protection capacities. As a result, the government program foresees the strengthening of civil protection, by investing in two firefighting aircraft, a reinforced ground fleet and 4 new regional civil emergency centers.
Regarding the military salary, which is the highest in the region, it will continue to increase and will reach the NATO average in 2029. Along with it, the number of Armed Forces will also increase.
The program foresees, among other things, strengthening the response capacity in the territory with innovative solutions, intelligent systems and the implementation of the national/international number 112.
By 2029, critical infrastructure will be modernized and developed, completing investments in Corridor VIII for Alliance mobility, starting in Porto Romano.
Work is also expected to be completed at the Trauma Hospital construction site, the Aviation School in Vlora, the New Campus of the Armed Forces Academy, the Military Innovation Complex in Bërzhitë and the International Polygon in Bize.
