50 thousand vehicles fail technical inspection/ DPSHTRR: 5,333 old cars were deregistered in 8 months

The General Directorate of Road Transport Services has published data for the period January-August 2025, regarding the technical inspection service of circulating vehicles.
During this period, 206,822 vehicles were tested, of which 86.5% are vehicles with a capacity of 4+1 to 8+1 seats. Also, 6.2% are trucks; 4.2% are motorcycles; 0.5% are trailers; 1.7% are buses, and 0.4% are construction/earthmoving vehicles.
Many of the vehicles were repaired and returned to circulation with higher safety standards.
The majority of the checks, over 72 thousand vehicles, were checked at the DPSHTRR center in Tirana, reflecting the highest flow and concentration of vehicles in the capital. On the other hand, Gjirokastra ranks last for the number of vehicles that have undergone technical checks, which reaches 4,345.
Meanwhile, according to figures published by the DPSHTRR, 50,040 vehicles have been left behind or rejected in testing, raising concerns about the technical condition of vehicles in circulation. Likewise, 90.2% of the vehicles have been retested after repair; 9.4% of the remaining vehicles are expected to be presented after repairs and 0.4% of the vehicles have been rejected due to problems such as: damaged windows, over-worn tires, defects and deficiencies in the system, deficiencies in documentation, etc.
According to the DPSHTRR, the reasons for the stoppage are related to visual and functional deficiencies 37.9%; problems with the exhaust system 34.3%; defects in the steering system 14.7% and problems with the braking system 13.1%.
Another element is the age of vehicles in circulation. During this 8-month period, 5,333 vehicles with an average age of 22 years were permanently deregistered. A step towards safer roads and a cleaner environment, emphasizes the DPSHTRR.
