"Albania, with a regional center for hybrid threats" - Tafa: Objective, better coping with attacks and increasing professional capacities

Albania will create a regional center in the field of hybrid threats. This was stated by the Director of the National Cyber Security Authority (AKSK), Igli Tafa, according to whom the hub will guarantee greater protection against these threats.
In recent months there has been an increase in cyber attacks, but they have been successfully prevented by defense systems. This increase in cyber attacks has not been accompanied by an impact on infrastructure and the economy, Tafa emphasized.
"We are trying to establish a center that will be divided or maintained in 3 pillars, in the pillar of technological implementations, facing and understanding how technology can technologically cope with threats coming from artificial intelligence, quantum technology, other OT technologies, etc., and the second pillar is operational, which includes all implementation of policies, standards, risk assessment methodologies, proactive and reactive management, and the third pillar of this hub will be based on building professional capacities at the expert level of institutions, at the level of academies and vocational and secondary schools. Part of this third pillar is also economic diplomacy", said Tafa.
Deputy Minister of Defense, Blerina Abrazhda, underlined the importance of having strong systems that respond immediately to hybrid threats.
"Albania experiences cyber attacks every day, the main goal of which is to obtain information to use in various ways. The point is for systems to be reactive and proactive so that the moment we have an attack, we not only understand that we have an attack, but also counterbalance the attack," said the Deputy Minister.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Council of Europe stated that the greatest hybrid threats come from states like Iran.
"Russia is the most visible actor of hybrid threats in the region, but here in Albania we have seen examples of Iran-linked attacks as well. Colleagues here in Albania have focused on building a domestic response mechanism ," she said.
During this week, the European Center of Excellence Against Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE), in collaboration with AKSK, organized in Tirana the Conference and Simulation Exercise on Hybrid Threats in the Western Balkans, bringing together representatives from countries in the region, the EU and NATO.
