Summit in Tivat/ Rama: Albania is seen as the country closest to EU membership

The European Union-Western Balkans Summit held in Tivat, Montenegro confirmed Albania's progress on the path towards European integration.
In his comments after the summit, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the country has received positive assessments from European partners and is increasingly considered a candidate close to membership.
"Albania was assessed as a country that is close to membership. Our voice was heard clearly and respectfully, just as we listen respectfully to our European partners ," Rama declared.
The Prime Minister also discussed the meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, whom he said confirmed the high level of support that Albania enjoys from its main European partners.
"The appreciation is maximum, the support is maximum. What remains to be done is our work. Neither the Germans, nor the French, nor the Italians can do this," he said.
According to Rama, recent developments have strengthened the belief that Albania's objective of membership in the European Union within this decade is achievable, as long as the country continues with the pace of reforms and fulfills the obligations of the integration process.
