Albania takes the lead of Forest Europe - Rama: From illegal logging to European

Albania has been unanimously elected to lead Forest Europe for the 2026-2030 mandate, taking over from Sweden in the most important pan-European organization for forests and sustainable management of natural resources.

In "Notes of the Week," Prime Minister Edi Rama described this as a historic moment for the country, emphasizing that such a development would have been unimaginable a decade ago.

"This is a decision that has a special significance. Could Albania have been imagined at the helm of this organization 10 years ago, when illegal hunting was rampant in protected areas and forests were being cut down without control?" Rama said.

The Prime Minister underlined that Albania's choice is the result of policies pursued for environmental protection, the expansion of protected areas and the preservation of natural ecosystems.

According to him, another important news is the inclusion of Lake Shkodra in the UNESCO biosphere, which reinforces Albania's position as a country that is gaining international recognition in the field of nature protection.

"The fact that Albania is taking the lead of Forest Europe today with the support of countries like Germany and the United Kingdom should tell us something about the transformation that has taken place in the country," Rama declared.
