Demand for electricity increases by 20% - Balluku: Figures for the first week of July, OSHEE guarantees stable supply
The demand for electricity in the first week of July has marked a significant increase, compared to the same period a year ago. The data was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, according to whom, in the first week of July alone, we have a 20% increase in the demand for electricity.
"Putting it in numbers and comparing it, the first 6 days of July 2024, on average, had 18.6 million kilowatt-hours of demand, while in July 2025, in these first 6 days, we had a demand of 22.4 million kilowatt-hours. All of this undoubtedly reflects the hot days, but referring to the history a year ago, July and August were two very hot months, but on the other hand it also reflects the increasing demand due to new hotel units or apartments that have started to be usable or even operational business units," said Balluku.
Despite the significant increase in load, the minister praised the performance of the Distribution System Operator, emphasizing that the energy supply has been stable and the interruptions minimal.
"Despite the 20% increase in demand, compared to 2024, the work being done today in the field by the OSSH groups is work that we consider very good, as the disconnections have been minimal and on the other hand all the breakdowns that have occurred due to the increased load have certainly been systematized and fixed in record time," said Balluku.
She assured that over 1,600 OSHEE Group employees are on the ground and on duty to guarantee quality and uninterrupted service to citizens and businesses.
