Project, "National Single Window" is established - Customs, full access to information. Business costs are reduced by 10%
The Albanian government plans to create the National Single Window (NSW) within the next year.
But what is it and what will it be used for? The Single Window enables electronic communication between customs authorities and all national institutions that issue permits, licenses, authorizations, etc., which are necessary for carrying out customs procedures in the import-export of goods.
This brings reduced customs clearance times, reduced costs for businesses, convenience and transparency. According to World Bank estimates, trade costs through this platform are reduced by 10%.
The measures envisaged to be taken by 2027 for this purpose are: Development of the concept and institutional structure of the National Single Window; Review and amendment of legislation and regulations for the National Single Window; Development and deployment of the IT solution for the National Single Window
According to official data from the Ministry of Finance, there have been improvements in the speed of processing declarations in various customs channels during 2024. Processing time in the yellow channel has decreased by 12 minutes, the green channel by 7 minutes, and the red channel has marked the greatest improvement, reducing time by 63 minutes.
The green channel means “selection without customs control” for the clearance of goods, eliminating documentary and physical control. The yellow channel is for goods that may be potentially risky and require documentary checks but no physical control, while the red channel requires a full customs control of the goods awaiting customs clearance.
Reducing processing times can facilitate international trade by directly improving the business climate. Businesses can import and export goods faster, reducing customs costs and speeding up the process of supplying the market.
