Wind power generation - Two plants with a total capacity of 148.5 MW received

Wind energy still remains untapped in our country, while data for 2024 show that 2 projects with a total power of 148.5 MW have received a preliminary opinion to be connected to the transmission system.

The first project is the Pogradec Wind Farm, with an installed capacity of 120 MW. Meanwhile, the other plant is the Drin-2 Wind Farm and has an estimated capacity of 28.5 MW. In previous years, there have been a number of projects that have received similar approvals, but so far none of them have entered production.

According to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, there are currently only 2 companies licensed to produce electricity from wind, but even these plants have not yet been built.

Wind is considered by experts as an important source of renewable energy and an alternative for diversifying energy production sources. This is because currently over 90% of the country's energy is generated from water sources, with a high dependence on atmospheric conditions. Meanwhile, given the fact that a considerable number of electricity sources, not only wind, but also photovoltaic and hydro, are expected to be built and connected to the transmission system, the Energy Regulatory Authority emphasizes the need for more dynamic development and investments to integrate these sources into the Albanian electricity system in the coming years.
