Police warn: Beware of fraudulent websites that request fake payments for vehicle fines

The Directorate for the Investigation of Cybercrime informs citizens that the circulation of fraudulent messages (SMS) and fake links has recently been detected, which imitate the official website of the State Police and aim to deceive citizens, through requests for alleged payment of vehicle fines.
The links sent lead to a fake page, which at first glance appears to be the official page of the State Police, using the institutional emblem, images of the building of the General Directorate of the State Police, as well as graphic elements that imitate emergency services. In the first step, citizens are asked to confirm their identity by entering their mobile phone number. In the next step, the page asks for the vehicle license plate number, while in the last stage they are asked to fill in their bank details, with the claim of paying the fine.
The State Police explains that this website is not an official website, as it uses a fake internet address (domain: aspalgov.cyou), which does not belong to any state institution.
This case constitutes a cyber fraud attempt (phishing), with the aim of obtaining unauthorized personal data, phone numbers, vehicle data, banking data, PINs and access codes to online accounts, exposing citizens to the risk of financial losses and abuse of their identity.
The Cybercrime Investigation Directorate appeals to citizens:
-Do not click on suspicious links sent via SMS, emails or social networks;
-Do not post phone numbers, personal or banking information on unofficial websites;
-Keep in mind that the State Police does not request identity confirmation or payment of fines through links sent by SMS;
-Verify any information only through official State Police channels;
-In case of suspicion or fraud, immediately report to the State Police or the Cybercrime Investigation Directorate.
The State Police remains committed to preventing, identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of these crimes in the digital space, and invites citizens to show maximum care in protecting their personal and financial data.
