"We can't pay by card, only cash"/ Tourists in Albania: We come because the prices are cheap
At a time when most of the world operates with electronic payments, Albania still remains a "cash" economy. Many tourists face a daily challenge, unable to use their bank cards to pay.
"This is one of the things we don't like about Albania. We can't use bank cards and everything has to be paid in cash. Almost everywhere we've been they don't accept cards - the markets and small bars on the street only ask for cash," said the tourist.
But beyond that, it seems that the main reason these tourists are visiting the country is the low prices compared to other countries they have visited.
"Albania is probably the cheapest country we've ever visited and that's the main reason why we're here. Prices are below average, even cheaper than in Turkey. I haven't done much shopping yet as it's my second day here, but from what I've seen it's cheaper than other countries, the fact that it's cheaper than Greece is enough," the tourist explained.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, a foreign tourist spent an average of 426 euros during his stay in Albania, in 2024 alone. With cheap prices, beautiful nature and hospitality, the country offers a lot – but modernizing services remains a task for the future.
