From a sports facility to a regional center - Transformation with international standards for the sports palace in Korça
The Albanian Development Fund has announced the opening of a tender with the objective of investing in the transformation of public assets, with development potential, into models of the highest development standard: "Reconstruction of the existing building of the "Tamara Nikolla" sports palace, Korça. The estimated limit fund of this project reaches 250 million lek.
The construction site is located in the northern part of the city of Korça. According to the document published by the Public Procurement Agency, the existing building of the "Tamara Nikolla" Sports Palace will be reconstructed, adding one floor to the existing building in Korça, transforming this public asset into a multifunctional center that meets the demands of the time for the development of national and regional sports activities.
Meanwhile, the reconstruction of the building will be carried out while preserving the volume of the sports palace building and the architectural elements of the facade, which distinguish it for its typology and the time when it was built, and aims to improve the sustainability of the existing building.
This facility will not only serve for national matches, but also for matches at the Balkan level, creating a reference point for the development of sports in Albania.
This facility has a sports activity function for hand games, such as basketball and volleyball. The document emphasizes that it is intended to reorganize and add facilities in order to operate an optimal scheme to improve the standards that the facility will offer. Functional interventions are mainly in the entrance area, where in the lobby area new spaces are reformulated, such as: museum; bar-cafe; shop; lobby; additional one floor; offices and other auxiliary facilities and elevator.
On the other hand, this project will bring about the improvement of technical conditions based on national and international standards, referring to the norms required by FIBA and FIVB, such as equipment, installations and everything related to improving thermal and acoustic comfort, fire safety, etc. Offers must be submitted by June 16, 2025.
