From beds to lamps. Imports reach record figures - New constructions are driving demand for their furnishings
Furniture, beds, and lighting equipment. Last year, about 33 billion tons were imported to meet the country's needs.
According to data from INSTAT, this marks the highest figure ever achieved. Compared to 2023, imports for this group increased by 34%.
The high volume seems to have been supported by the large number of new constructions that have been completed over the past year. To complete the furnishing of new apartments or businesses, furniture manufacturing firms were forced to turn to imports.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, the number of construction permits in the past four years has increased by 60%, paralleling the need for their furnishing.
Although domestic furniture production exists, high demand and the rapid pace of construction seem to have led the market to rely mainly on imports.
With the continuation of new projects, this trend is expected to continue in the coming years, making the furniture sector one of the main beneficiaries of developments in construction.
