In 6 years, 4097 self-producers of energy - Growing trend year after year, led by private and family consumers

The number of consumers who self-produce electricity has progressively increased in the last 6 years, reaching 4097 according to the latest data reported for 2025.
According to official data for the period 2020-2025, self-consumers have recorded significant growth, especially in the last 3 years. More specifically, in 2020, only 59 clients were registered who produced their own energy for their needs, while in 2021 another 115 were added. Meanwhile, the growth was high in 2022 with 625 clients, or 443% more than the previous year. In 2023, another 729 self-producers were added, while the highest number was recorded in 2024, when the applications of 887 clients were approved. However, the year 2025 seems to have marked the highest growth, with 1682 clients who now self-produce electricity.
With these approved installations and connected to the electricity grid, the total installed capacity by self-producers has reached 398 mWp, up from 217 mWp at the end of 2018. Meanwhile, divided by type of client, private customers lead with the highest number, while 30% or 1229 of them are family clients. Also, the data shows that there are also several state institutions such as municipalities, ministries or educational institutions that have installed solar panels for energy generation, as well as several non-budgetary consumers, including water supply companies, polyclinics or health centers.
