Pensions, the biggest concern for Albanians - RCC: They are the most satisfied

Across the region, Albanians are the most satisfied with their economy. According to a report by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), nearly 31% of Albanians surveyed said they were very satisfied, followed by Kosovo at 29%, while Serbs and Bosniaks have the lowest level of satisfaction with their economy.

After a significant increase in dissatisfaction in 2022, the number of citizens dissatisfied with the economy appears to have dropped to 44.7% from 58% previously.

In 2025, the biggest concerns across the Western Balkans are related to economic conditions, starting first with the high cost of living and inflation, followed by concerns over wages, pensions and tax levels, which put pressure on household incomes.

In Albania and North Macedonia, these concerns are very pronounced. The biggest concern for Albanians is reported to be pensions, while for citizens of North Macedonia, inflation and the cost of living remain the main problems.

Although it may seem contradictory to the fact that we express the most satisfaction with the economy, Albania also reports the highest level of financial insecurity in 2025, with 54.5% of Albanians surveyed stating that they could not cover an unexpected expense of approximately €1,000 without borrowing or relying on others, a slight increase from 53.3% in 2024. North Macedonia also shows a similar level, with almost half of citizens unable to manage such an emergency cost in 2025.

Albanians are also unable to spend money on themselves every week, with 40.5% of respondents, the highest rate in the region. On the other hand, Albania also reported the highest number of people who stated that they were unable to go out with friends or family every month.
