Changes to the Highway Code - New definitions for the weights and dimensions of vehicles allowed to circulate

The Highway Code will undergo changes regarding the dimensions or weight of vehicles allowed to circulate in our country. During the presentation to the parliamentary committees, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enkeljeda Muçaj, said that the changes aim to comply with and comply with European Union Directives.
Muçaj also spoke about the costs that may arise from new obligations for business, considering them as legitimate costs.
Currently, the Albanian Road Code stipulates that every road vehicle, including its load, must have: a maximum width of no more than 2.55 m, a maximum height of no more than 4 m and 4.3 m for buses and trolleybuses intended for public service lines, as well as a length of 7.50 - 12 m according to the number of axles of the vehicle. The Code also imposes restrictions on trailers, as well as on the weight that each means of transport must have. Meanwhile, according to the amendments, the restrictions are removed from the Road Code and are determined by a government decision, which will have to be issued immediately after the approval of the new Code. This is done because the overall dimensions of vehicles are subject to continuous updating of the European directive and that these updates would be better done through a Decision of the Council of Ministers. The proposed changes do not affect non-standard vehicles and transport in abnormal conditions.
