Karakaçi: The new substation in Piqeras increases the security of energy supply in the south

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, stated that the new electrical substation being built in Bunec, near Piqeras, will significantly improve the security and quality of electricity supply for the southern coastal area.
During the inspection of the works, together with the administrator of the OSSH, Blendian Dalipi, Karakaçi emphasized that the investment is a response to the increase in demand for energy in an area that has experienced rapid tourist development.
"We have almost entered the peak of the tourist season. At the end of June we had a higher load than at the peak of August last year. This means that the demand for energy is increasing and we expect even higher loads during the weekends and in August," said Karakaçi.
The Minister announced that OSHEE and the Distribution System Operator have drafted a plan of measures to cope with the summer season.
"OSHEE and the Distribution System Operator have built a plan of measures and all employees are now on standby," he said, emphasizing that working groups have been increased to guarantee rapid intervention and uninterrupted supply.
The Administrator of the OSSH, Blendian Dalipi, appreciated the strategic importance of the investment, emphasizing that the new substation will not only serve to increase capacities.
"This substation has an added value, not only for the security of supply, but also for closing the ring of feeders coming from the Saranda and Himara substations. It guarantees supply to Piqeras, Borsh, Shën Vasili, and also provides security to the areas of Qeparo, Qafë Gjashtë and Saranda, " said Dalipi.
The new substation is expected to be completed and put into operation before the start of the summer tourist season next year. It will have a capacity several times larger than the existing one and will be equipped with modern technology, while during the works, power supply is being guaranteed through a temporary substation.
