Competition launches in-depth investigation in 5 wholesale markets - Price cartel for fruits and vegetables in Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Fier and Korça
5 fruit and vegetable collection and wholesale markets will be the subject of an in-depth investigation by the Competition Authority.
Specifically, the Competition Authority has opened the in-depth investigation procedure in the market of collection and wholesale of fruits and vegetables in the region of Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Fier and Korçë.
The Competition Commission in its meeting, dated 04.10.2024, evaluated the data obtained during the preliminary investigation phase in the market of collection and wholesale of fruits and vegetables in the district of Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Fier and Korçë.
This institution informs that "after analyzing the market structure, vertical integration, the behavior of aggregators and the great differences in the product value chain from producers, aggregators, wholesalers to the end consumer, it was estimated that this market can to have anti-competitive behavior, as a result of agreements and/or concerted practices between two or more enterprises operating in the market of collection and wholesale of fruits and vegetables, in the sense of Article 4 of Law no. 9121 dated 28.07.2003 "On the protection of competition".
For the above, the Competition Commission, with decision no. 1114, dated 04.10.2024 decided to open the in-depth investigation procedure, which will include the time period January 1, 2023 - September 30, 2024.
