The history of Albanian Eurobonds, 6 such in 13 years - Loans received ranged from 300 to 650 million euros
Since 2010 and following, Albania has gone to the international markets to obtain financing which has covered the needs of the economy at certain times a full 6 times. The first Eurobond was injected in 2010 and belongs to the previous government, while the other 5 loans were taken by the current government.
During the last year, Albania issued the sixth Eurobond in 13 years, with a value of 600 million euros. The first Eurobond was issued in 2010, with an amount of 300 million euros, a 7.5% coupon, a 7.625% yield and a 5-year maturity. This debt is already closed. The second exit was in 2015, with a Eurobond of 450 million euros, and in 2018, the third exit was marked in the international markets to obtain debt with a value of 500 million euros.
In 2020, the Ministry of Finance issued a Eurobond of 650 million euros and a year later, in 2021, the fifth Eurobond was issued, with conditions and value almost identical to that of 2020.
The last issue dates back to 2023, where 600 million euros were borrowed with a 5.9% coupon and a 5-year maturity.
A good part of the Eurobonds were taken to repay the previous issues and the remaining part went for investments or necessary financing in the economy.
With the return to the international markets in 2025, the 7th Eurobond in 15 years will be registered.
Recently, the Ministry of Finance has announced the winner of the proposal presented by the company Dechert LLP, selecting it as the legal consultant that will provide the legal consultancy service in the seventh issuance of a Eurobond of 600 million euros.
