Greece, with the third lowest salaries in the EU - According to Eurostat data,

The average annual salary in Greece for 2023 is 17,000 euros, ranking it third from the bottom in the EU, according to Eurostat data. Despite a small increase of 3.6%, Greece continues to be significantly below the bloc average.

The average full-time annual salary in Greece for 2023 was €17,000, according to data published by Eurostat, the EU's statistics agency. This places Greece third from the bottom on the list, with only Bulgaria (€13,500) and Hungary (€16,900) reporting lower figures.

While economic indicators such as investments, growth of the Gross Domestic Product, show that the Greek economy is on the path of a sustainable recovery, the average Greek citizen seems to be struggling to make ends meet in his daily life. Eurostat confirms the annual wage disparity between Greeks and other EU member states in its latest report, and the figures show that the gap is widening.

The average full-time annual salary across the EU reached €37,900 in 2023, up from €35,600 in 2022, reflecting an increase of 6.5%. In contrast, Greece saw a smaller increase of 3.6% from 2022, when the average was €16,407. Despite this increase, the average Greek wage still remains below 45% of the EU average.

Also, a large difference is observed when comparing Greek incomes with those in more developed countries. Eurostat reports that one employee in Luxembourg earns almost the equivalent of five Greek workers, with an annual salary of €81,100.

In Denmark, the average salary of one employee is equal to that of four Greek workers, at 67,600 euros per year. Irish wages are 3.5 times higher than Greek wages, averaging €58,700 per year.

If we divide Greece's average annual income of €17,000, counting bonuses and holiday pay, the result is approximately €962 net per month. This amount is only slightly higher than what Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis promised as a minimum wage until the end of his term.
