"Giro d'Italia 2025" blocks traffic - Police: Traffic and parking ban from May 8-11, including Tirana, Durrës and Vlora
The development of the "Giro d'Italia 2025" cycling race in Albania will result in traffic jams and parking bans on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th in Tirana, Durrës and Vlora according to the 3 respective itineraries. In a statement to the media, the director of the Road Police, Altin Qato, announced that the State Police has drawn up a detailed plan of measures for the management and security of road traffic, the guarantee of public order, and the continuation of sports activities.
The blocking of parking lots and urban roads in Durrës includes May 8 and 9, when the first stage concludes. Meanwhile, Tirana will have restrictions on May 9 and 10, due to the development of the first 2 stages.
"Blocking of urban road axes in Tirana. Traffic ban two hours before the competitors pass through the entire itinerary of the first stage. Tirana - Tirana, stage II, on 10.05.2025 is a time trial race. From 08:00 to 11:00 there will be limited movement and no parking will be allowed on the road segments: "Zogu i Zi" and on the itinerary Rruga e Durresit, Rruga "Fortuzi", Rruga "Dervish Hatixhe", Rruga e Barrikadave, the road behind the Palace of Culture. Traffic ban on vehicles, with the exception of emergency vehicles and State Police, from 10:00 to 18:00 on 10.05.2025, on the entire itinerary of the second stage", - said Qato.
For the third stage Vlorë - Vlorë, parking and traffic restrictions are also foreseen on some city and interurban roads. The parking ban starts from 15:00 on May 10, until 18:00 on May 11. To get to the port of Vlorë, the Trans-Balkan road will be used, which will be accessible at all times by vehicles and citizens.
These measures are intended to guarantee road safety, the continuation of the race and minimize the impact on the movement of citizens and vehicles. The Traffic Police calls on all citizens to respect road signs and instructions from Police officers, to avoid vehicle movements in the affected areas during the race and to follow official information. It also thanks the public for their understanding and cooperation during this important sporting event.
It is important for citizens to know the itinerary of the stages, to understand the roads where there will be blockages.
