What role will the Development Bank have in exports? - Strengthening "Made in Albania", access to credit and financial intermediation

The Albanian government aims to strengthen Albanian exports and promote domestic production through several mechanisms.
One of the main mechanisms is related to financial instruments, as exporters are significantly exposed to the exchange rate and have suffered significant losses in recent years, making them more in need of liquidity and access to credit.
To this end, the Development Bank, whose law was approved last year, is expected to play a key role not only in financing and modernizing Albanian industry, but will also serve as an export agency to insure exports, reducing costs and risk for exporters.
Through it, European Union instruments will also be used to promote domestic production and access the "Made in Albania" brand to European and Western Balkan markets.
Referring to the law, the Albanian Development Bank was created with the aim of supporting Albanian enterprises that do not have sufficient access to financing from the traditional market and which often face difficulties in securing loans or investments for expansion and innovation, having a complementary role to financing provided by commercial institutions.
Specifically, the Albanian Development Bank will provide loans, provide guarantees and invest in debt and equity securities, helping to implement projects of particular importance to the economy. Through financial schemes, the Albanian Development Bank will promote and support projects at central and local levels, focusing on strategic sectors.
This Bank will provide financing to small and medium-sized enterprises, microenterprises, and start-ups, with the aim of increasing their productivity, competitiveness, and presence in international markets. The Albanian Development Bank aims to support Albanian exports by encouraging production and services that can successfully compete in foreign markets. Also, one of the objectives of this Bank will be to improve and modernize the country's physical and digital infrastructure, with a special focus on green investments.
The Albanian Development Bank will also serve as a financial intermediary for the European Investment Bank and other such international institutions, in terms of channeling the loans and funds they provide for the implementation of public projects at the central and local levels.
