ERE initiates procedures for licensing private TPP - 170 MW project in Roskovec, gas will be obtained from the TAP pipeline
The Energy Regulatory Authority has initiated procedures for licensing the company "Fier Thermoelectric" in the activity of producing electricity from a thermal power plant, with an installed capacity of 170 MW, located in Roskovec.
The decision to initiate the procedures was taken at the last meeting of the Entity, while interested parties can express their opinions and comments in writing until 08.07.2025, at the ERE offices, or at the institution's email address.
The Roskovec TPP project was approved by the government in December last year, with the plant, which will use gas to generate electricity, having an operating life of 49 years. According to the government's decision, the TPP should be operational after 3 years, including the issuance of a building permit and its construction.
70% of the shares of the proposing company “Fier Thermoelectric” are owned by GEK TERNA, created by the merger of 2 Greek companies operating in the construction field. Meanwhile, 30% of the shares are owned by the Albanian company “Gener 2”.
According to the Environmental Impact Assessment Report, the TPP will be combined cycle with natural gas, while the supply and source of natural gas is already fully protected due to the agreement signed, in February 2022, between GEK TERNA and the Public Gas Corporation of Greece.
According to the agreement, the latter will supply around 2 TW/year of gas for a period of at least 7 years, delivered to the ABV31 Interconnection Point of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in Roskovec, according to market and contract conditions. However, this project has been opposed by local residents, due to its proximity to agricultural lands.
