The world expands investments in "AI" - Global chip sales increase by about 23%
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported that global semiconductor sales were $57.0 billion in April 2025, a 2.5% increase from March's total of $55.6 billion. But that figure was 22.7% higher than last April's total of $46.4 billion.
Monthly sales are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization. The industry association represents 99% of semiconductors in the US and nearly two-thirds of non-US firms.
"Global semiconductor sales in April increased on a monthly basis for the first time in 2025, as the global market continues to grow year-on-year, driven by sales growth in the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region," the association said. They predict strong expansion of the global market in 2025, driven by high demand for artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and advanced consumer electronics.
Regionally, year-on-year sales in April increased in the Americas (44.4%), Asia-Pacific (23.1%), China (14.4%), Japan (4.3%) and Europe (0.1%). While month-on-month sales in April increased in China (5.5%), Asia-Pacific (5.3%) and Europe (0.5%), but declined in Japan (-0.6%) and the Americas (-1.1%).
The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Organization predicts that annual global sales will grow by 11.2%, to $700.9 billion in 2025.
By 2026, global sales are projected to reach $760.7 billion. The organization compiles a semi-annual industry forecast table, gathering data from a broad group of global chip companies.
