Electrification of the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway - EBRD opens 2-phase tender, invites companies to submit technical offers
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has opened a 2-phase tender for the electrification of the Tirana - Durrës railway line and the new connection to Rinas International Airport. The contracting authority is the Albanian Railways, while the tender is being conducted by the EBRD, as the project financier.
The first phase includes only the technical proposal, without prices, together with any justified deviations from the requirements, as well as the qualification documents. After the technical offers are evaluated, qualified bidders will be invited to participate in the second phase, to submit the updated technical offer, together with the financial offer.
The opening of this procedure was announced a few weeks ago by the head of Albanian Railways, Ergys Verdho, who said that "we were on the verge of opening the loan from the EBRD and the grant from the European Commission for the construction of the last component of the project, which is electrification". "We say to access this in the last quarter of this year, to sign the agreements, to take all possible steps so that the tender for this procedure proceeds on time for its delivery", - he said.
According to the same statements, the construction of the Tirana - Durrës - Rinas railway line will be completed next year, while the electrification and arrival of trains for the start of operations is intended to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
The station buildings, where the train will stop, are currently being constructed.
