"TEMU Effect" Increases International Mail in Albania - Online Shopping Leads to Record Shipments from Abroad. About 102% More than in 2024
Over the course of a year, more international postal items have arrived in Albania. According to the latest data from the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), in the third quarter of 2025, the number of international postal items (outgoing and incoming) increased by 102% compared to the same period last year.
In other words, about 426 thousand items arrived by mail from abroad in the third quarter of 2025. This record of incoming international postal items comes due to the increase in online purchases by Albanians. The “TEMU” phenomenon, i.e. the “boom” of online purchases of cheap and broad-based products from the TEMU platform, has undoubtedly translated into an increase in postal deliveries.
However, compared to the second quarter, postal deliveries within and outside the country resulted in a decrease.
The Albanian Post, which continues to be the only universal service provider in Albania, i.e., offering a defined minimum of services, of a certain quality, available to all users in the territory of Albania, regardless of geographical location, at affordable prices, is the company that has distributed the most objects. With the official registration of the Albanian Development Bank at the National Business Center (NBC) in December last year, the Albanian Post is also expected to take on another role. Albanian citizens will be able to open deposits at the Development Bank, they can deposit their money at Albanian Post outlets and withdraw this money along with interest.
