"Black" Tuesday for drivers - INSTAT: Mortality, 10.5 per 100 road accidents
Statistics published by INSTAT for the period January-December 2024 show that 1,666 accidents were recorded, compared to the same period in 2023, where 1,285 accidents were recorded. These figures reflect a significant increase in accidents in Albania throughout 2024.
Also for 2024, the mortality rate in road accidents is 10.5 per 100 accidents, down from 14.9 in the same period a year earlier.
Meanwhile, in December 2024, the highest number of road accidents occurred on Tuesday with 20.1%, while the lowest number of accidents occurred on Friday with 10.1%.
On the other hand, driver behavior is the dominant factor in 89.3% of cases causing accidents.
According to the data, the highest number of road accidents occurred during the time frame 08:00-12:00, accounting for 26.2% of the total number of road accidents.
In terms of geographical spread, the Tirana region, considering its larger population, is more exposed to the risk of accidents. Tirana holds the first place for the highest number of accidents with 552 accidents, while Berat registers the lowest number with 30 accidents during 2024, the INSTAT report states.
