How does disinformation in times of war affect the public? - Experts: Fake news spreads panic and changes consumption

As the situation in the Middle East has escalated in recent years with several hotbeds of fighting, manipulated videos, images created with artificial intelligence, or false information that spread rapidly are often circulating on social media.
Disinformation not only affects how the public perceives the conflict, but can also create collective reactions, from panic to changing consumer behavior.
Psychologist Anora Kroj explains the effects of false information.
"Disinformation increases fear more than reality. Individuals become very emotional, create frequent and uncontrolled thoughts about the war, and may also experience anxiety and panic and fear. Actions such as bank withdrawals can be carried out, and there are also cases of impulsive and poorly managed spending, because they are acting in survival mode. We have been social and are affected by the global situation, but we must be careful how we receive information ," says Kroj.
Communications expert Holta Heba points out that in conflict situations, filtering information is difficult.
"The difficulty is of a very high degree, because anyone can produce a news story today, anywhere there is internet. The platforms are uncontrollable, unmanageable, and information is distributed in record time."
The risk increases even more because the perfection that artificial intelligence gives to fake news or a fake image is very uncontrollable and the time with which AI works is very high and there cannot be a verification meter, moreover, the degree of perfection in creating an image is very great.
"In conflict situations, it is difficult to choose what is the right news, but we must keep our senses sharp and absorb the information that is valuable to us ," emphasizes Heba.
Experts emphasize that citizens should only be informed from reliable sources and not trust every news or image they see.
