Saranda Bypass, tender closes without complaints - New 3.5 km segment expected to ease traffic during tourist season

The public procurement procedure for the construction of the Saranda bypass has been closed without complaints about the tender documents, paving the way for the review of the offers and the selection of the company that will carry out the works. The tender with a limit fund of 2 billion lek was opened in July and includes the first phase of the project, while for the full completion of the road, a second procedure will be needed, which is expected to have a limit fund of 833 million lek.
The completion of this road project is expected to significantly ease the flow of vehicles entering and leaving the city of Saranda, especially during the tourist season. The traffic study conducted by the consultants shows that during the summer period, an average of 25,000 vehicles circulate in and out of the city per day, turning Qafë e Gjashtës into a problematic point in terms of vehicle traffic. Meanwhile, the final analysis confirms that the construction of this axis will solve the traffic problems in the city, avoiding long queues and congestion common during the tourist season, both for residents and for the thousands of visitors who frequent Saranda every year.
Referring to the project, the road will be about 3.5 km long and extends over hilly terrain to the Bistrica River, where the construction of a bridge about 70 meters long is planned. Further, the road continues on flat terrain and ends with another junction on the national axis Kardhiq-Delvinë.
The road will have a speed limit of 60 km/h, and will be of the C2 interurban category, with a 3.5-meter lane and safety shoulders on both sides.
