EIB signs cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of Albania!
The European Investment Bank (EIB Global) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of Albania providing a grant worth €350,000, enabling advisory services for the urban restoration and reconstruction of the National History Museum in Tirana, a national heritage site damaged by the 2019 earthquake. The grant will finance the project preparation, design and technical reviews, supervision, management and procurement.
According to the announcement, these consultancy services will ensure that the museum's restoration meets high standards for energy efficiency, climate sustainability and visitor comfort, while enhancing integration with the surrounding urban environment. The funds are allocated under the EIB's Economic Recovery Initiative, which aims to support sustainable growth, vital infrastructure and social cohesion in the Western Balkan countries.
“This initiative complements the ‘EU4Culture’ programme and will contribute to the urban regeneration and revitalisation of Albania’s cultural heritage ,” said Alessandro de Concini, EIB Representative in Albania. “It will also ensure that this important cultural institution is returned to the people of Albania and visitors from all over the world in its full glory – more resilient to natural disasters, more functional and in full compliance with the highest international standards. ”
The signing ceremony was held in Tirana, in the presence of high-level representatives of the Albanian government and the EIB Global delegation.
“This technical assistance from the European Investment Bank is extremely valuable as we enter the second phase of preparation for the full restoration and renovation of the National History Museum. It ensures that the project meets the highest international standards of quality, sustainability and resilience, while contributing to the realization of Albania’s 2030 objectives and strengthening our integration process into the European Union, ” said Blendi Gonxhja, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports.
