Central Archive for Military Documentation - Government Decision, will offer documents up to 115 years old
The Council of Ministers has approved the decision to create the Central Archive in operation for the technical documentation of the special typology of armaments, military technological equipment of the armed forces, with headquarters in Tirana.
The Central Archive in operation for technical documentation of the special typology of armaments, military technological equipment of the Armed Forces is financed from the state budget and other legal sources, according to the legislation in force.
The archive budget constitutes a separate item in the budget of the Ministry of Defense. Likewise, the central archive is organized at the central level and exercises its activity throughout the territory of the Republic of Albania, within the scope of responsibility of the Ministry of Defense, and has its own coat of arms, official seal and logo. The seal has the defined form and elements, which is produced, administered and stored in accordance with the legislation in force.
The Central Archive has the mission of preserving, processing, administering, digitizing and servicing technical documentation of ammunition, weapons production and any document that serves this industry. It also has the duty to collect for preservation, administration, digitization, declassification and servicing all documentation of the specific typology of the weapons production industry and the processing of typological documentation from the fund-creating institutions.
At the same time, the Central Archive offers archival services to citizens and interested entities, for documents of a special typology of armament, military technological equipment of the Armed Forces, which it has in storage and administration, through the service of documents of a special typology, identical to the original; the service and use of documents is made against payment.
Meanwhile, the Central Archive administers, digitizes and serves documentation of a special typology for a period of 115 years from the moment of submission to this archive by the fund-creating institutions. The fund-creating institutions of the Armed Forces, which preserve, process and administer documentation of a special typology, submit the documentation to the central archive, no later than 5 years from the date of closure of the document's operability at the fund-creating institution.
The Central Archive operates an Expertise Commission, composed of no less than 5 members, chaired by the director of the archive. The Expertise Commission compiles a concrete list of documents of national historical importance and documents with a temporary retention period, and determines the retention periods for the latter, no less than 15 years and no more than 25 years.
