7.24 billion lek for the military forces throughout 2024 - For salaries or services, an average soldier received 1.8 million lek
The Ministry of Defense has published its monitoring report for last year, which shows that around 7.24 billion lek were spent on military personnel. This amount represents 16% of the total budget allocated to the Ministry of Defense for 2024.
The majority of these expenditures are allocated to the salaries of land forces personnel, which number 2,333 military personnel, with a total cost of 3.16 billion lek. After the land forces, the air forces are ranked, with a budget of 1.76 billion lek for 680 personnel, and the naval forces, with expenditures worth 1.26 billion lek for 681 military personnel.
The military contingent in peacekeeping missions abroad, consisting of 266 military personnel, with a total cost of 1.06 billion lek.
On average, about 1.8 million lek are spent on salaries and other services per personnel, regardless of whether they belong to the land, air or naval forces.
On the other hand, the realization of budget funds for 2024 for the category of current expenditures has reached 84% of the plan, while investment products have realized only 62% of the projected budget. This low level of realization in current expenditures is the result of the insufficient realization of the fund distributed in the form of conditional transfers to municipalities, which aim to compensate citizens affected by natural disasters, as well as to take preventive measures.
The funds approved for 2024 for the "Civil Emergencies" program constitute about 11% of the initial budget of the Ministry of Defense, revised downwards throughout the year, reaching the level of 8% of the budget with changes, and are spent on achieving objectives such as interventions provided in the event of an earthquake, interventions provided in the event of a flood, and interventions provided in the event of a fire.
