Accident compensation drops by 3.7% - AMF: Insurance companies paid fewer claims

In the first three months of 2025, insurance companies have paid fewer claims. About 1.9 billion lek is the amount of claims paid by insurance companies in January-March of this year. The latest data from the Financial Supervisory Authority shows that gross claims paid fell by 3.77%, while the largest share belongs to motor insurance, specifically domestic MTPL.

Since the largest number of contracts and gross written premiums is registered for insurance in the non-life category, the value of claims paid is also higher in the non-life activity. About 89.4% of the amount of claims paid belongs to the non-life category, almost 5.26% are claims paid by the Compensation Fund and 5.3% are claims paid for life. It turns out that fewer claims were paid from the Compensation Fund than in 2024. The Compensation Fund from claims in the transport sector for 2025 is in the amount of 250 million lek.

Although the value of claims has decreased, the number of claims paid has increased. The number of claims paid in the first quarter of the year is over 18 thousand, 496 more than in the same period of the previous year, of which 11,632 claims were paid by Non-Life insurance companies and 479 by Life insurance companies.

As for life insurance, the debtor's life product has the highest claim payment values, while in the non-life category, after motor insurance comes land vehicle insurance, health insurance, and then fire and natural forces insurance.

On the other hand, pending damages, that is, those that are still unpaid, that are in the process of being assessed, or that are the subject of legal cases, have increased.
