2 projects for public solar power plants - KESH aims to diversify energy

While a number of private solar power plants have entered production or are expected to be built, the public power generator is also aiming to expand its portfolio in this direction. There are 2 projects being implemented by the Albanian Power Corporation, which are expected to diversify energy production sources, mitigating dependence on water.

The most advanced project is the floating solar plant in Vau e Dejës, which will have an installed capacity of 12.97 MWp. A few days ago, the contract for the design, construction and 2-year operation was signed, with a value of 13.86 million euros. Meanwhile, according to calculations, the predicted production in the first year will reach 18,808 mWh, with an average production of 17,822 mWh/year throughout its life.

The second project envisages the construction of a 50 MWp solar power plant in the Belsh area. The work has a total cost of 40 million euros, while 30 million euros are expected to be financed through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 8 million euros are an EU grant and the remaining 2 million euros, through a capital injection from KESH.

The corporation owns and operates the three public hydropower plants of the Drini Cascade, with a combined installed capacity of 1,350 MW, as well as a 5.14 MWp solar plant located at the Qyrsaqi dam, in Vau e Dejës.
