The ship 'Cassiopeia' with 49 migrants on board arrives in

According to reports, the Italian Navy patrol ship Cassiopea, which was carrying 49 migrants captured over the weekend in international waters south of Lampedusa, has landed today in the port of Shëngjin, Albania.

The migrants are from Bangladesh (mostly), Egypt, Ivory Coast and Gambia, selected to undergo the expedited border procedure provided for those coming from safe countries and who have not submitted their identity documents.

At the 'Italian' hotspot of Shëngjin, asylum seekers will be identified and undergo a full medical check-up (if vulnerable conditions are found, they will be sent to Italy, as happened in some cases in the two previous transfers to Albania, last October and November).

They will then be transferred to the next center in Italian jurisdiction, that of Gjaderi, about twenty kilometers away, based on the detention order ordered by the Rome police chief.

The judges of the Capital Court of Appeal must then decide within 48 hours whether or not to confirm the detention order. The answer should therefore be available by Thursday. In other cases, the magistrates suspended the validity for all detained immigrants, who were then sent to Italy.
