The “Safe City” system starts operating - 1-month testing for drivers in North Macedonia

The "Safe City" system will start operating in North Macedonia today, initially in the city of Skopje, the municipalities of Tetovo and Kumanovo. It is expected to be operational throughout the country by mid-2026.
During the month of December, the "Safe City" system will have a testing period, where citizens and all vehicle drivers will be informed about the violations they will commit. After this period, it is expected that this project will start normally on January 1, 2026.
During the testing period, drivers will only receive warnings, without fines. Every vehicle owner whose violation is documented will receive an SMS and email notification with a link where they can download the report and payment order.
From the moment of receipt, there is a deadline of eight days to pay half of the fine.
After this deadline has passed, the monetary value must be paid in full within the next eight days, before the forced collection procedure begins.
Fines can also be paid electronically and the system will immediately notify the Ministry of Interior that the fine has been paid.
