Montenegro, 1.4 billion euros for infrastructure - The plan includes investments

The Government of Montenegro has approved a list of priority infrastructure projects in the energy sector. This list is made to meet the final criteria of chapter 21, Trans-European Network, related to the country's negotiations for membership in the European Union. The plan consists of 15 projects with a total value of around 1.38 billion euros, the announcement states.

The most valuable priority infrastructure projects in the energy sector of Montenegro are the Komarnica and Krusheva hydropower plants, the Trans-Balkan Electric Corridor and the Adriatic-Ionian gas pipeline.

The list was updated in accordance with the methodology of the Investment Framework for the Western Balkans. In accordance with the priorities set at the state level, the European Commission selects projects for financial support from the scheme.

The Western Balkans Investment Framework is the main mechanism for EU financial support to the region in the period from 2024 to 2027, the government noted.

The projects with the greatest value are the Komarnica Hydropower Plant (315 million euros) and the Adriatic-Ionian natural gas pipeline, 210 million euros.

Also, the interconnection Italy - Montenegro - Serbia - Bosnia and Herzegovina or the Trans-Balkan Electric Corridor, worth 163 million euros, as well as the Krusheva Hydropower Plant (160 million euros) require significant investments.

Among other things, the government intends to spend 104 million euros to increase energy efficiency in public buildings and housing. The focus is also on improving the quality of electricity supply in tourist regions, with a cost of 78 million euros.
