Kosovo and North Macedonia with common border points - The parties signed

The governments of Kosovo and North Macedonia held a joint meeting in Pristina and signed 3 new cooperation agreements. After the meeting, at the media conference, the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that there is no dispute between the two countries and that the parties have continuous communication on topics of common interest. While the Macedonian Prime Minister, Mickoski, estimated that the signed agreements will have a positive impact on people and economic progress. The parties signed agreements in the field of energy, education, and facilitating free movement. Kurti said that the implementation will start from January 2025.

"After a long time of waiting, we will finally have joint control at the points Han i Elezit - Bllacë and Jazhincë - Gllobočicë. This control model is only entry-entry and the police officers work in the same building, facilitating the border crossing, and thus shortening the waiting time", said Kurti.

At the meeting between the two governments, Kurti recalled that the two countries have so far signed 50 agreements and that "what needs to be done is their implementation". There has been a continuous increase in trade between the two countries. In 2023, exchanges reached 432 million euros, with a 52 percent increase compared to 2019.

"If we work together we will be stronger, as unity makes neighbors even stronger. We intend that the commercial cooperation will be even greater in the coming years and will bring us benefits. I am convinced that we will succeed", said Mickoski.

The joint meeting of the two governments comes after a visit that Kurti and his ministers made to Skopje this summer, a few months after Mickoski's Government was formed. This was the second intergovernmental meeting between Kosovo and North Macedonia, after the one in 2021.
