Vetevendosje wins elections in Kosovo - With 49.3% of the vote. Kurti: The new

Kosovo's acting prime minister and leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, said he would quickly form a new government after his party won nearly half the votes in Sunday's elections, signaling a possible end to a year-long political deadlock that has paralyzed parliament and delayed key international funding.

The vote is the second this year in Kosovo, after Kurti's Vetëvendosje party failed to secure a majority in February. Months of failed coalition talks prompted President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve parliament in November and call early elections.

Kurti's party leads with 49.3%, with 99% of votes counted after polling stations closed at 7 p.m. He called on opposition members to support him in voting on international loan agreements, which require a two-thirds majority to be approved.

“I want to thank the citizens of Kosovo, and I also want to thank the opposition parties for their campaign, for recognizing this time the election result. And I look forward to cooperating with the opposition on several international agreements that are pending, and for them we need a two-thirds majority, including the EU growth plan, (worth) 880 million euros, two-thirds of which are loans and one-third are grants, then another 120 million euros from three agreements with the World Bank. I look forward to continuing in my third mandate as Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo. And I will serve with all my knowledge and skills according to our program and with my excellent team (for) the next four years. As soon as the results are certified by the Central Election Commission, we must quickly establish a parliament from the 10th legislature and then immediately form a new government. We have no time to waste and we must move forward as quickly as possible "We can be together soon."

The two main opposition parties, the Democratic Party and the Democratic League, won 21% and 13.6% of the vote, respectively.
