Starting this month, all categories that emerged from the last war in Kosovo will benefit from a 20% pension increase. The Kosovo government has approved this increase, and at the last government meeting, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that an annex to the Law on War Categories has been updated to enable the increase promised last October.

"As we announced in October, the 20% increase over the current amount will be officially approved for the families of martyrs, invalids, veterans, members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, victims of sexual violence and civilian victims," said Kurti.

The Minister of Finance of Kosovo, Hekuran Murati, adds that the increase for all categories of veterans, invalids and victims of sexual violence will be 20% above the current amount.

"For some categories, there is an increase of over 20%," said the minister. The categories that benefit from an increase of over 20% are the families of KLA martyrs who have two or more martyrs, the families of the missing KLA who have more than two missing and the families of civilian victims. The family with one war martyr will receive 537 euros per month, the family with two war martyrs will benefit from 806 euros, the family with three war martyrs will receive a monthly pension of 1,075 euros, while those with four war martyrs 1,344 euros'', said Minister Murati.

The pension scheme for families of martyrs and war invalids by category includes 12,681 beneficiaries, according to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics. This is the first increase in the last 10 years for these categories.

The victims of war sexual violence have so far received a pension worth 230 euros, and with the new increase, they will have a pension of 276 euros. The veteran's pension has been 170 euros until now, and with the increase of 20% it goes to 204 euros monthly pension. According to the data of the Statistics Agency of Kosovo, 37,006 people are beneficiaries of the scheme for war veterans.
