Heat waves, "fatal" in Europe - 6 deaths in Italy and Spain.

The scorching heat has claimed its first victims in Europe, with six deaths reported in Italy and Spain. Meanwhile, sea surface temperatures in the Mediterranean have reached their highest ever recorded for the month of June.

The extreme heat wave that has gripped southern Europe continues to spread eastward, with Paris, Rome, Berlin, Vienna, Prague and Warsaw all experiencing record temperatures. France recorded its second-hottest June since 1900.

The high temperatures are believed to be responsible for the deaths of six people in Spain and Italy. In Naples, temperatures reached 34 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels reaching 70%, especially in the evening and at night. Meanwhile, in Milan, temperatures were 7 degrees above average, while in Rome they were 8 degrees above average.

However, some regions have implemented easing measures that limit outdoor work during peak hours. Such a measure should also be taken in other countries that are reaching record temperatures, such as Albania.

The World Meteorological Organization said the world must learn to live with the new normal of extreme heat waves, which will occur more frequently and be more intense over time.

Meanwhile, sea surface temperatures in the Mediterranean have reached their highest ever recorded for the month of June. On June 29, these temperatures reached 26.01°C, according to Copernicus data. The most intense warming was observed in the western Mediterranean basin, including the Balearic Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea. With current weather conditions, scientists say temperatures are unlikely to drop anytime soon.

The Mediterranean is considered one of the world's most vulnerable 'hotspots' to climate change, warming much faster than the global average. Experts warn that persistent marine heatwaves could irreversibly change the region.
