Greece "forwards" American gas to Europe - Has tripled LNG imports since 2019

Greece is becoming a major entry point for American liquefied natural gas (LNG), which then flows to Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary and other European countries.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, in 2019, Greece imported 6 to 7 billion cubic meters of natural gas for domestic consumption, while now this figure has reached 17 billion cubic meters, of which 11 billion, mainly American LNG, are re-exported to neighboring countries.
The ministry added that within two weeks, US Energy officials will visit Greece, along with 20 ministers from Eastern and Central Europe, highlighting the country's growing role in regional energy security.
Regarding hydrocarbon exploration, official sources said they will explore "what all the countries around us have explored, whether in the Eastern Mediterranean or the Ionian Sea. This is something we owe to our homeland and which will change a lot in our lives, if commercially exploitable reserves are found."
The Greek government also added that the new spatial planning for new renewable energy projects will apply to new initiatives and those still in the initial licensing stages. The plan will set clear limits for solar panels and guidelines for the development of wind energy.
Among other things, Greece is stepping up efforts to accelerate energy storage projects. “There has been development in the renewable energy sector without rules and without a strategy. It is difficult to set rules now, but if we don’t, we will not be able to move forward in the next two decades,” ministry sources announced.
