Google invests 5 billion euros in Belgium - Aims to expand artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure

Google has announced a new €5 billion investment in Belgium to expand its data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure, marking one of the largest single technology investments in the country's history.
The investment will finance the expansion of Google's existing hub in the Wallonia region of Belgium, and support the creation of around 300 new jobs. The project is seen as key to accelerating access to artificial intelligence and cloud services across Europe.
"With today's announcement, Google is deepening its roots in Belgium, expanding our investments in the country and creating new paths for transformation led by innovative technology," said official company sources.
The Belgian government described the move as a turning point for the country's digital economy and energy transition. "Google's new investment is a strong sign of confidence in Belgium as a hub for digital innovation and sustainable growth. By expanding advanced cloud infrastructure and creating specialized jobs, Belgium is not only strengthening its economy, but also playing a strategic role as a leader in Europe's digital future," the statement said.
The new facilities will run on clean, carbon-free energy and be connected to the renewable energy grid, in line with national and EU climate targets for 2030.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Trade emphasized that cooperation with global technology companies must be balanced with strong measures to protect national interests.
"Belgium values the exchange with global technology leaders like Google. Strengthening our cyber and data capacities requires open dialogue, while at the same time firmly preserving our sovereignty and security," ministry sources stated.
