Which countries prefer Greece? - Over 28 million visitors will travel to Hellenic land in 2025
Greek tourism continues to be dominant in 2025. Planning for the 2025 summer season reflects a stable demand structure, with interest in Greece remaining strong from key European markets, while momentum from the US, the Middle East and Southeastern Europe continues to strengthen.
Tourism in Greece remains strong, as indicated by airline schedules. For the 2025 summer season, 28.2 million airline seats on international flights to the country are planned, an increase of 4.6% compared to 2024.
Official Greek sources said that the imposition of tariffs would increase inflation and reduce Americans' disposable income, resulting in a decrease in their spending. However, as for Europe, they expressed optimism and emphasized that "there will be no direct effect on Greece." According to them, tourism is one of the main sectors of the economy and "it must maintain high quality so that tourists choose Greek land."
The analysis by the Institute of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises shows that the United Kingdom remains the largest market for Greece with 5.6 million seats (+2.2% compared to last year), representing 20% of the total, followed by Germany with 4.7 million seats (+2.5%) and a market share of 17%. Third is Italy with 2.5 million seats (+3.9%) and a market share of 9%, confirming the steady upward trend of recent years.
Of the main markets for inbound tourism, the largest increase (+18.6%) was recorded by the USA with 727 thousand people traveling by air. Among the significant increases, Israel stands out, showing a strong increase of +52.1%, exceeding 1.3 million.
Countries with previously low capacity also show significant growth, such as Saudi Arabia (+45.0%) with 84 thousand seats, Albania (+56%) with 156 thousand seats and Armenia (+68.5%) with 75 thousand seats. Georgia also shows impressive growth, doubling its capacity (+113%) with 126 thousand seats.
On the contrary, declines are observed in countries such as France (-2.6%) with 1.7 million, Poland (-6.7%) with 682 thousand and Denmark (-7.3%) with 298 thousand.
