AI directly on personal computers - Nvidia launches new RTX Spark chip

Nvidia unveiled a new chip that puts artificial intelligence capabilities directly into laptops and PCs, which will ship this fall and experts say will change the way users interact with artificial intelligence.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who is in Taiwan for the Computex conference, said that the RTX Spark chip for PCs is part of Nvidia’s efforts with Microsoft. The chip is designed to run artificial intelligence agents locally, rather than relying solely on cloud computing.
RTX Spark aims to transform the traditional application-centric PC into a truly useful AI Agent PC, which will eventually be in every home in the coming years as AI agents with private advantages become essential.
The new chip and Nvidia’s Vera CPU underscore the company’s growing focus on PC and CPU products, with Huang devoting most of his keynote to the topic.
The Vera CPU is designed for artificial intelligence agents, and its early adopters include OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceX, according to the $5 trillion chipmaker’s chief executive. Huang was speaking ahead of Computex, where leaders from some of the world’s biggest tech companies gather.
During an earnings call in May, Huang said Nvidia’s new Vera CPUs give it access to a new $200 billion market.
Huang dismissed as “complete nonsense” concerns that artificial intelligence would reduce demand for software engineers, arguing instead that the technology would boost employment by making workers more productive.
