Albanians, the first for roaming with the EU - RCC Report: Within the region, we spend fewer minutes and internet
Albanians are the first in the region in terms of minutes and internet they spend on Roaming when traveling to one of the European Union countries. According to a report by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Albania has the highest number of outgoing and incoming calls, or internet traffic per roaming user compared to the other five Western Balkan countries.
Specifically, an Albanian has spent an average of 31 outgoing minutes and 8.2 GB of internet with Roaming in a European Union country, while the average result is 24 incoming minutes with Roaming per user.
Despite the fact that we use Roaming services more in the European Economic Area countries, when it comes to Roaming usage within the Western Balkans, we are often among the last.
Although the number of people who have used roaming services during their stay in one of the Western Balkan countries has been steadily increasing, reaching around 860 thousand subscribers in 2024, with an increase of around 5% from the previous year, Albanians are still last in the region. Montenegrins are the ones who spend the most internet and minutes roaming within the Western Balkans.
The agreement to abolish roaming fees between Western Balkan countries will begin to be implemented in 2021. Meanwhile, from October 2023, mobile companies began gradually reducing roaming fees for the Internet between European Union countries and the Western Balkans, initially with a reduction to 2.4 lekë/MB or 22 euros/GB, until they are zero.
As a result of lower prices, there has been a greater use of minutes, internet and SMS with Roaming since the start of the implementation of the two respective agreements.
