Over 1 billion lek for higher education - Investments in research, digitalization and connection to the labor market

Higher education in the country is expected to enter a phase of reform, where the measures are accompanied by a detailed financial plan.
According to the 2030 Higher Education Policy Action Plan, which has just entered into force, total investments amount to around 1.09 billion lekë, distributed in several key directions.
One of the main pillars of the reform is the rapprochement of universities with the labor market. The document foresees the strengthening of career offices in each institution, as well as increased cooperation with the private sector through internships and practicums. In this way, the aim is for students to emerge better prepared for the real demands of the market.
Another important focus is digitalization and scientific research. One of the largest investments is the creation of the national ACRIS infrastructure, worth about 200 million lekë, which aims to build a unified system for scientific research in the country.
The plan also foresees the funding of 60 doctorates and increased support for students through scholarship schemes, where this item alone is worth around 702 million lek.
Also, another important element is the internationalization of universities, through agreements with foreign institutions, joint programs, and inclusion in international rankings. This is seen as a step to increase the quality and competitiveness of higher education in the country.
Some of the measures remain in the evaluation phase and their full implementation is expected to extend until 2027-2028, which means that the concrete effects for students and the labor market will not be immediate, but rather it is a long-term strategy, within the framework of achieving European standards.
The reform aims to turn universities into engines of economic and social development, to provide a more secure future for educated young people.
