Malaj inspects the scanner of the Port of Durres: Significant reduction in waiting time for economic operators
The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, together with the Director General of Customs, Genti Gazheli, conducted an inspection visit to the scanner at the Port of Durres, where a significant decrease in the number of scans has been recorded over the last three months. This development has brought significant facilitation of the process for economic operators and has been welcomed by transport companies, which have appreciated the reduction in waiting times and more efficient handling of the flow.
Agron Jaku, General Director of S2 Albania, said: "The additional measures have facilitated and accelerated the transportation process for both tourism and other means of transport. We currently have about 200 scans per day and the entire process, from entry to exit, takes only 3 minutes."
The General Director of Customs, Genti Gazheli, emphasized: "The increase in the volume of goods has also brought an increase in the pace of customs clearances. Every year, the Port of Durres processes about 15% of the total volume of imports and exports, being the most important border point in this regard. We have managed to reduce the processing time and stay at the port, as well as reduce the scanning time for entities that use it as an entry and exit point by over 10%. "
For his part, the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, stated: "These are necessary measures that go towards modernizing the customs administration and aligning work processes with European Union standards. A fast, transparent and reliable customs is essential to achieve our objectives and to get closer to EU standards more quickly."
This improvement is the result of the agreement signed in April, in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama, which guarantees a coordinated approach between Customs and the State Police, with targeted controls based solely on risk. As part of this cooperation, work is being done to further reduce the number of scans, ensuring the right balance between security and convenience for business.
