Begaj starts consultations on the election date - Meetings with political parties, the President: Important process
President Bajram Begaj has started a consultation process with political parties to determine the date of the general elections that will take place next year.
Meanwhile, through a post on social networks, Begaj considered this process as very important, while he requested that the parties called to the consultation treat it with seriousness and responsibility.
Begay's full post:
Legislature X of the Assembly is coming to an end and the time for the power to return to the voters is approaching.
This power of the electors should not be reduced only to a calendar date that the President of the Republic sets for the Albanians with the aim of them expressing their will.
The decree of the date of the elections should mark the beginning of an intensive process of consultation and accountability for all political actors, government and opposition.
This essential process for democracy must be transformed into a genuine display of civic participation and engagement.
Open, responsible, serious and visionary discussion should accompany every step of communication between politicians and voters.
The political will of voters must be conceived based on open, transparent and constructive debate, on the civil confrontation of alternatives, and not on misuse of administrative and electoral power, or on illegal electoral offers.
A fair electoral process has as its first step the setting of the date of the elections, starting from the best interest of the voters, impartially weighing the arguments for and against each alternative and attracting the voice of a wide spectrum of political actors and institutional.
This purpose is best served by the consultation launched today, with the hope and wish that the parties invited to the consultation will welcome it with the same seriousness, respect and responsibility, with which they have been invited to participate with their opinions and suggestions.
