Albanians saved more last year/ Total deposits reached 1.48 trillion lek, with strong growth in the second half of the year

Albanians closed 2025 with a record level of savings, holding around 1.48 trillion lek in bank deposits. Throughout the year, total deposits in the Albanian banking system have shown a mainly upward trend, which testifies to a stable trust of citizens and businesses in banks as a means of security and financial management. Compared to the previous month, December also marked an increase of around 2.1%.
If we analyze the performance throughout the year, it is noted that deposits have seen a significant increase, especially in the second half. At the beginning of the year, specifically in January, they were registered at the level of 1.39 trillion lek, while December resulted in the month with the highest value of savings throughout 2025.
According to the breakdown by currency, deposits in lek have shown the most pronounced growth, a trend that has continued throughout the year and peaked in the last month. Meanwhile, at the end of December, savings in the local currency reached around 710 billion lek, reflecting a significant increase compared to the beginning of the year, especially in relation to January. On the other hand, deposits in foreign currency have experienced more limited movements, but have remained consistently at high levels, reaching the value of 773 billion.
Overall, the growth of deposits in lek and the stability of savings in foreign currency point to a new balance in the financial behavior of individuals and businesses. This trend reflects a gradual adjustment to economic conditions, where the local currency is strengthening its position alongside foreign currencies.
In parallel, transferable deposits have also increased, expanding from 368 billion lek to 388 billion lek at the end of the year. This development shows that citizens and businesses are favoring more flexible forms of savings, which allow them quick access to their funds as needed.
